Qualifications and Experience

Nathan Weinstock, Your Ottawa Home Inspector

Meet Nathan Weinstock

I’m Nathan Weinstock, B.Sc., RHI, President, Registered Home Inspector.  I own AccuChex Home Inspections. And I’m the AccuChex Inspector.  When you book an AccuChex Inspection anywhere in the greater Ottawa area, you can be confident that your inspector will be the owner and the president of the company, me. With other inspection companies, you never know who will be doing the inspection, or his/her qualifications.

I did my first inspection when I was still in Architecture school, before Home Inspection was the formal profession that it currently is. I enjoyed them and was grateful to be able to provide such a valuable and useful service for my clients, mostly home buyers and home owners. I knew that this is what I wanted to do and incorporated AccuChex Home Inspections in 1987.

Main Focus: Home Inspections

Over the years I have inspected thousand of homes all over the Ottawa region. From century houses to brand new construction; from 1 bedroom condo apartments to over 5,000 square foot mansions. I’ve looked at townhomes, single homes, doubles, duplexes and triplexes, all the way up to 6-plex.

I own and operate:

  • Abstract to Earth Consultants Inc.
  • AccuChex Home Inspections (a registered subsidiary)

My Professional Membership

I’m a full, certified member of the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI) with the professional designation of RHI, Registered Home Inspector. This makes me a certified home inspector in the eyes of OAHI, the only professional association recognized by the government of Ontario.

Approved Relocation Specialist

I am also an approved relocation specialist. If you are being transferred to the Ottawa region in the public or private sector, you can call AccuChex with confidence. I’ll provide excellent service, at your convenience.

Solid Education and Experience

I bring a solid educational and experiential background to my Home Inspection business.
I have the following:

  • a Science Degree;
  • completed studies in Architecture, Building Science, and Project Management;
  • worked as part of the Design team in a large Architectural/Engineering firm;
  • developed $40 million of new housing in Ottawa;
  • run a Real Estate Development Company with annual operating revenues of $550,000;
  • taught Home Construction and Home Inspection for the School Boards;
  • owned and operated an Architectural Consulting and Building Inspection business successfully for over 25 years.

Helped Others Too

In addition to the main business of home inspections, other clients have taken advantage of what I have to offer.  I’ve worked for NORR Architects and Engineers, the Co-operative Housing Federation of Eastern Ontario, the Ottawa Board of Education, and the National Capital Commission.

I’ve also been hired by various condominium corporations to help with their asset strategy. My reports were used to rank the replacement priority of the doors and windows in their asset management plans.

I’ve inspected homes for various non profits, co-operatives and assisted living agencies throughout the greater Ottawa area. Some of my clients include Crichton Cultural Community Centre, Ottawa-Carleton Lifeskills Inc., Ottawa Salus Community Mental Health Agency, Abiwin Co-operative, Westboro Co-operative, St. Georges Co-operative, Carpenter Co-operative and Carillon Co-operative. In some cases, I inspected individual houses that were being purchased. Here my report provides an important and valuable resource to help in the buying decision.

I’ve  investigated specific problems such as mould or flooding. As housing stock ages, it is often necessary to look at the root causes of issues before calling in a contractor. I carefully and clearly explain the situation and write detailed and easy to understand reports that can assist owners and board members in the decision making process. This is of significant benefit when assessing the need for repair. The allocation of funds is always a concern and I can help with the budgeting process. Finally, in legal disputes, I can objectively evaluate a repair or renovation project and fairly assign areas of responsibility.
